Cold saponification
La Savonnerie du Moulin à Grain uses the saponification method
cold in its soap factory in the heart of Salon-de-Provence.

The cold saponification method: tradition & renewal
Cold saponification consists in designing a purely artisanal soap by a subtle mixture of vegetable oils and soda, a real alchemy.
The manufacturing process is delicate and requires a long time
about 4 weeks drying time.
The advantage of this method is the preservation of the virtues of the oils used, because they are not heated unlike
a conventional method of saponification (Marseille soap).
The advantages of cold soap
This is the only method that allows
to keep naturally
glycerin. cold soap
is known for its moisturizing properties and humectants ,
it is beneficial for the skin
and balances the side
soap detergent.
The cold saponified soap, surgras, is similar to a real care
for the skin. It is suitable for all skin types from the youngest
for older children and recommended
sensitive, atopic skin
or prone to allergies.
Its nourishing virtues,
softening and protective
are good for the skin.
Fine and creamy mousse
generated by saponified soap
cold, offers a sensation
delicate on the skin.

Ethics
This ancestral manufacturing method does not cause any pollution
water or soil. It is part of an ecological, ethical and responsible approach and it is in total agreement with the Artisan spirit.
All the ingredients used in our Savonnerie formulations
of the Grain Mill are of vegetable origin,
natural and biodegradable
It is the soap par excellence of the Artisan soap maker.
For the sake of preserving the planet, the Savonnerie
from the mill grain is prohibited in its own all-purpose manufacture
of palm oil.

Étape 1 : le choix des ingrédients
Step 1: Choosing the ingredients
The first step is to choose fats:
the choice of fat is very important, it will determine the purpose of your soap and thus form a soft, quality soap with skin and hair care properties but also hygiene.
The choice of ingredients is very important but so is the quantity.
if you want to get a real cold process soap natural and balanced.
The dosage of fatty substances will determine the percentage
d e greasing. In order to obtain a soft and surgras soap.
Step 2: Mixing
During this step, the fatty substances and soda are mixed to naturally obtain vegetable glycerin and the beginning of soap.
cold made.
The finesse of this stage begins once the glycerin has formed naturally and our mixture is homogeneous.
It is now important to move on to the overgreasing stage using vegetable oil, once the soda has worked with the fatty substances,
the mixture thickens.
The extra fat with olive oil, which we will add to our mixture
so that the olive oil is incorporated into the thick solution,
which will bring all the properties of olive oil to the final soap
and thus reduce the rate of soda in the mixture.
Our saponification is finally finished with a natural glycerin, a high quality soft and surgras soap as well as a low rate of caustic soda.
Étape 3 : le moulage et le découpage
Step 3: Molding and cutting the cold soap
Once the mixture is done, we must mold the saponification
in custom molds lined with parchment paper to avoid
the contact of the soap with the mold for hygienic reasons
and thus prevent the soap from sticking to the walls of the mould.
The soap rests for 24 hours in the moulds. Once the drying is finished,
room for cutting.
The cutting is done using a machine made up of several metal cables spaced the same distance for a clean cut
and effective soap.
Étape 4 : le séchage du savon
Step 4: Drying the soap cold
Finally, the last stage is the longest!
The drying of the soap lasts 6 to 8 weeks.
Drying will allow the soap to consolidate and evacuate
the caustic soda remaining in the soap by a phenomenon of capillarity.
